Samsung Galaxy Alpha pre-orders begin in the U.K. on Aug 28
The Samsung Galaxy Alpha, the manufacturer's Apple iPhone challenger, will be available for pre-order in the U.K. starting on August 28th. With its metal chassis and 4.7 inch screen, the "premium" handset is designed to grab sales from the Apple iPhone 6, which is also expected to offer a 4.7 inch display. The resolution on the Samsung model is 720 x 1280, which works out to a 312ppi pixel density.
The Galaxy Alpha is powered by an octa-core Exynos 5430 CPU, with the ARM Mali T-628 GPU crunching graphics. It also features 2GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage. Of that amount, 25GB is available to the user. Like the iPhone, there is no microSD slot available for additional memory. Rear and front-facing cameras weigh in at 12MP and 2.1MP, respectively, and a relatively modest 1860mAh battery powers the handset. Android 4.4.4 is pre-installed out of the box.
The Samsung Galaxy Alpha's main competition, the 4.7 inch Apple iPhone 6, will be unveiled on September 9th with a possible launch on September 19th.
