Report: Apple iPhone 8 to feature optional accessory for wireless charging
KGI Securities' super Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that a wireless charging feature for the Apple iPhone 8 is a sure thing. It might be a sure thing, but it also doesn't appear to be a free thing. A report published today out of Japan cites a reliable source, who states that Apple will be offering an optional accessory for wireless charging. According to the report, a company called Luxshare will be providing Apple with the accessory that allows users to power up the battery without wires. The same firm is believed to be supplying the coils for the wireless charger that comes out of the box with the Apple Watch.

The report also adds that Apple will no longer bundle a Lightning to 3.5mm cable with the iPhone. Apple included such a cable with the Apple iPhone 7 and Apple iPhone 7 Plus after it removed the 3.5mm earphone jack from its 2016 models.

According to Mac Otakara, the 2017 iPhone 8 will be just 5-inches, which could be a typo. Most expect the special 10th anniversary edition of the handset to weigh in at 5.8-inches. That is what KGI's Kuo is looking for, and he has one of the best records among analysts who cover the company. The Apple iPhone 8 (also rumored to be called iPhone X) is expected to carry an OLED panel with edge-to-edge glass, and Touch ID will be embedded under the screen. With speculation calling for a price slightly north of $1,000, the Apple iPhone 8 still could be among the most coveted phones of 2017.

Last month we told you that a company called Lite-On Semiconductor was manufacturing the internal components of the wireless charger. Also last month, the early reports claimed that the iPhone 8 will be able to wirelessly charge from as far away as 15-feet from the power source.
