Promotional graphic reveals launch date of Moto Z Play and Moto Z Style
Motorola recently moved to trademark the Moto Z moniker, which reaffirmed reports that the Lenovo-owned company will swap the naming scheme of its long-standing Moto X line for the last letter of the alphabet. It has also been widely assumed that a Moto Z Style and Moto Z Play will be officially showcased at some point during Lenovo's Tech World 2016 event in San Francisco, which kicks off early next month. Thanks to a leaked press image from the hellomotoHK Google+ page, we can now circle June 9th in the diary.
The Z Play and Z Style will follow the current X Play and X Style in terms of their names. According to reports, however, there'll be quite a few key alternations. For one, both handsets are expected to be furnished with fingerprint sensors on the front, while the backplates will offer modular capabilities à la LG's G5.
The jury's still out on whether modular smartphones are to play a significant role in the consumer market. The LG G5 is certainly an interesting device with a fair amount of appeal. With a lingering perception that only geeks can truly appreciate such functionality, though, it'll be very interesting to see what the Moto Z series brings to the party.
Once thing is for sure: the Moto X line has served mobile fans very well over the past couple of years. Expectations will be high come June 9th, and here's hoping that the upcoming duo does not disappoint.
