Pegatron beefs up assembly line head count just before the next iteration of the iPhone starts production
Tong Zixian is the Chairman of contract manufacturer Pegatron. One of the devices that is assembled in its factories is the Apple iPhone. Mr. Zixian revealed at a stockholders meeting yesterday that the company has hired a number of new factory workers. These new employees are expected to handle the huge number of iPhones that the company will be assembling over the next few months.
Apple is expected to offer a 4.7-inch Apple iPhone 6s and a 5.5-inch Apple iPhone 6s Plus phablet this year. Both models should be unveiled in September, as usual. Production of the two handsets should start before August and we expect to see a new 12MP camera on both versions of the phone, sporting a sensor from Sony. The current iPhone models feature an 8MP camera on the back. Both phones will be powered by the Apple A9 chipset and should include 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM.
The next iteration of the Apple iPhone 6 and Apple iPhone 6 Pluscould include the Force Touch feature found on the Apple Watch. With Force Touch, the iPhone can differentiate between a light touch and a heavy touch on the screen. There is some speculation that the feature will be used to fast forward video being played on the phone, or to raise the volume of the speakers on the device.
Besides Pegatron, Foxconn is the other main contract manufacturer involved in producing Apple devices.
