OnePlus "actively working" on an Android Nougat update for OnePlus 3, OnePlus X to get Marshmallow next week

OnePlus today held an AMA (ask me anything) session on Reddit, answering some of the questions that fans had. One of the most important questions was: when will the OnePlus 3 be updated to Android Nougat?

Unfortunately, right now, OnePlus can't share a release date for the OnePlus 3 Nougat update. However, the company confirmed that it's "actively working" on bringing Nougat to its flagship smartphone (pictured above). Here's hoping that the update will be available to end users in the coming months. If you're the adventurous type, you can already install Android 7.0 Nougat on your OnePlus 3, thanks to an unofficial CyanogenMod ROM (though this has bugs, and obviously can't offer a frustration-free experience).

OnePlus also confirmed that the OnePlus X (its mid-range phone released last year with Android Lollipop on board) will start getting Android Marshmallow next week. Marshmallow will be the last major update that the OnePlus X is receiving, since it uses a Snapdragon 801 chipset (all devices powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 and 801 include graphics drivers that are not compatible with Nougat).

Other two things that you may want to know: OnePlus currently has no plans to release a smartwatch, and no plans to develop devices running other mobile OSes (like Windows 10 or Ubuntu). So the company should remain exclusively committed to Android for the foreseeable future - we can't say we're surprised to hear this.
