Nokia intros the MD-12 wireless speaker to complement its new Lumia smartphones

Nokia just announced a new wireless speaker: the MD-12. This comes in four color versions (yellow, green, orange and white) to match the Lumia 630 / 635 and Lumia 930 Windows Phone 8.1 handsets introduced earlier today.

The MD-12 weighs 180 grams and, according to Nokia, it’s about “the size of an apple.” It can be paired with your smartphone via NFC or Bluetooth, and you can manage it with Nokia’s Device Hub app. If you don’t want to pair the speaker wirelessly, you can use the audio-out connector that’s included in the box.

Interestingly, the MD-12 features a “built-in vibrating actuator located on the base”, which amplifies low frequencies when the speaker is placed on various surfaces, this providing sound with “a surprising amount of bass.”

Nokia allows three fans to win an MD-12 wireless speaker each. To enter the contest, head over to Nokia’s Conversations blog at the source link found at the end of this post. The new wireless speaker should be launched later this quarter for about $54 (€39).
