Lava International is a smartphone manufacturer that calls India its home. The company has sent out press invitations for an event scheduled for July 27th that could be held to unveil the next-generation of Android One handsets. Google developed Android One to help consumers in emerging markets buy their first smartphone, and enjoy a pure Android experience for an affordable price. The handsets were designed to receive Android updates with no problems. The OG Android One models were produced by companies like Micromax, Spice and Karbonn.

We expect to see Lava's Android One phone to be in the mid-range category with a 5-inch display, a MediaTek chipset and 2GB of RAM. Speculation has Google baking Android 5.1 into the new model and the phone could support 4G LTE connectivity. The OG Android One phones had a 4.5-inch screen with dual SIM capabilities, a microSD slot and an FM radio.

While the first-gen models were priced under $100, the new phone from Lava is rumored to be priced at the equivalent of $188 USD. There is talk of a bundled deal with Bharti Airtel that would give buyers of the new phone free data.

Thanks for the tip!
