New T-Mobile myTouch 4G ad takes aim at Sprint, AT&T and Apple iPhone
On Tuesday night, T-Mobile premiered some of its new, more aggressive advertising for the T-Mobile myTouch 4G. The Android flavored handset is full of features, including a front-facing camera that will work with some third party apps to allow video chats over both Wi-Fi and 3G. The Apple iPhone 4 has the Face Time video chat feature that for now, works only on Wi-Fi and this difference is being played up for the commercial.
The ad also has a tag line calling T-Mobile America's largest 4G network. That is a direct shot at Sprint. While Sprint has called its broadband network 4G, T-Mobile's HSPA+ pipelines have delivered faster speeds. Up to now, the carrier had been content to say that it offered 4G speeds. Now that the nation's fourth largest carrier is continuing to rollout HSPA+ all over the country, and has two handsets that are HSPA+ enabled, they are now calling the service 4G. By a technical definition, neither carrier is actually offering 4G in the States.
