NVIDIA will soon update the Shield Tablet and Shield Portable to Android 5.1 Lollipop
A couple of NVIDIA's forum administrators recently announced that the company is gearing up to update both the Shield Tablet and the Shield Portable gaming console to Android 5.1 Lollipop, currently the latest version of Google's mobile operating system.
The NVIDIA Shield Portable, which currently runs Android 4.4 KitKat, will be updated straight to Android 5.1 Lollipop. Although the forum administrator didn't mention a specific time-frame, he did mention that "It won't be much longer" before the update rolls out.
The NVIDIA Shield Tablet currently runs Android 5.0 Lollipop, meaning that the 5.1 Lollipop update shouldn't significantly alter the user experience. According to the forum administrator who made the announcement, the new update will solve performance and responsiveness issues that got introduced with the 5.0 Lollipop update. Compared to the 5.0 version, the 5.1 flavor of Lollipop brings only a limited number of new features, focusing on bug fixes and performance improvements instead.
The Shield Tablet will be updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop "in the coming weeks", meaning that NVIDIA's gaming tablet could end up getting 5.1 Lollipop before Google's own Nexus 9. If you find this to be a little on the strange side, feel free to sound off in the comment section below!
