Motorola DROID render surfaces with similarities to the Moto X4
Last year, Motorola took the Motorola Moto X Play, changed the name to the Motorola DROID MAXX 2, slapped the Verizon logo on the phone, and made it a Verizon exclusive in the U.S. Something similar is going to happen again this year with one or more of the DROID models. A render of a new Motorola DROID handset discovered today, shows the same exact features as leaked renders of the Motorola Moto X4. That is the fourth generation Moto X model.

The DROID render shows the same large, round camera sensor seen on the back of the Moto X4 renders, and on leaked photographs. Differences include the DROID branding on the phone, the Verizon "check" mark on the lower front of the device, and a rear-facing speaker as opposed to what appears to be a dock connector. Also, the home button/fingerprint scanner appears to be a less squarish shape.

So far, we haven't heard any whispers about a Motorola DROID Turbo 3 or a Motorola DROID MAXX 3. That might change once we learn more about the Moto X4.
