Metal-made Huawei GX8 officially launches in the US

Huawei this week officially started selling its GX8 smartphone in the US, about a month after it announced that it would bring the handset stateside.

The GX8 is a US-tailored variant of the Huawei G8 / G7 Plus, which was released several months back in other parts of the world. The smartphone has dual SIM support, and is compatible with the LTE networks of AT&T and T-Mobile, while Verizon and Sprint customers will not be able to use it.

Huawei says that 90% of the GX8 is made out of metal. The device looks pretty good, but it's nothing more than a mid-ranger, being powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, and sporting a 5.5-inch 1080p display. Also on board are a 13 MP rear camera with OIS, fingerprint scanner, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory (expandable thanks to a microSD card slot), and Android 5.1 Lollipop (we assume/hope that an update to Marshmallow will be launched later this year). The Huawei GX8 is sold via Amazon for $349.99, unlocked (US warranty included), and will also be available from GetHuawei.com. At the moment, only the gold and champagne color versions of the Huawei GX8 are in stock, with the grey one expected to arrive soon.

The GX8 is the second Android smartphone that Huawei is officially releasing this year in the US.
