MediaTek to announce 4G, QHD capable, octa-core MT6595 CPU clocked at up to 2.5GHz
Reports from China relayed that MediaTek is about to announce a monster of an affordable processor tomorrow, July 15. Allegedly, it's the MT6595 - an octa-core 32-bit CPU with cutting-edge features such as 4G LTE network and QuadHD display support that's also able to hit speeds of up to 2.5GHz.

The SoC is built on four Cortex-A17 cores and four Cortex-A7 cores - a mid-range solution, according to their chip designers from ARM. But if MediaTek is able to bring the aforementioned features to affordable devices, along with 4K recording and playback, then more power to the company, we say.

The MT6595 is expected to ship in three varieties - the MT6595M running on 2GHz, the MT6595 with a slightly faster 2.1-2.2GHz clock, and the MT6595 Turbo, which is souped up to 2.4-2.5GHz. It is said that MediaTek won't be late to bring out its 64-bit line-up in the fourth quarter of 2014. The manufacturer is looking to ship 15 million LTE-compatible chips by the end of the year as Chinese telecoms are looking to promote their 4G networks by selling up to 160 million affordable LTE smartphones this year.
