Major 4.0 firmware update now hitting the Pebble Time, Time Steel, and Time Round
The updated Timeline now includes a Quick View feature that allows users to view planned activities for up to three days in advance. In the same spirit of showing more data at the same time, v4.0 of the Pebble OS includes a new launcher menu that fits in more items on the screen.
Another interesting new feature is called App Glance. As the name suggests, this feature allows users to view information from an app without having to open it.
This new update also finally introduces the ability to act on the Gmail emails received by a paired iOS device. After installing v4.0 of the Pebble OS, iPhone and iPad users will be able to delete, archive, mark as read, reply to all, and star emails on their Gmail accounts. This feature has been available to Android users for quite some time now, and iOS support was perhaps long overdue.
Another useful feature debuted by the v4.0 Pebble platform update is the ability to quick-launch four different apps by long pressing any of the four physical buttons.
Although Pebble lacks the seemingly endless resources that Apple and Google can invest in successive software updates, the company that's often credited as the pioneer of the smartwatch craze is far from losing the update game.
This new 4.0 Pebble firmware update is available only for the Pebble Time, Pebble Time Steel, and Pebble Time Round. Older Pebble smartwatches such as the original Pebble and the Pebble Steel will receive the 3.12.3 firmware update, one that lacks the aforementioned features but introduces an updated look and various performance improvements.
