LG just announced that its
G3 flagship smartphone will be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop starting “this week” - we’re not sure if this means the week that ends tomorrow, November 9, or the one that begins on Monday, November 10. In any case, LG mentioned that the update will be first rolled out to G3 users in Poland, while folks in other key markets should expect to get it “in the near future.”
Following this announcement, it looks like LG is the very first manufacturer to officially bring Android 5.0 Lollipop to a non-Nexus, or non-Google Play Edition device. Earlier this week, we saw quite a few screenshots showing Lollipop running on the G3 (
here and
here), so perhaps the news of its imminent arrival shouldn’t surprise us.
Other manufacturers that should soon bring Lollipop to select devices include Samsung, Motorola, HTC, and Sony.
LG said that details regarding Lollipop updates for other devices will be revealed “in the near future.” For the record, LG Germany already confirmed that
the G2 would get Lollipop sometime after the G3.
