Huawei's Mate 9 flagship spotted in numerous colors with dual Leica cameras

11comments
We've heard a lot about Huawei's upcoming Mate 9 handset, including rumors it could house a Leica-infused duo of rear-facing cameras. Given that Huawei and Leica recently sealed a joint R&D venture, it seems certain that the Mate 9 and many of the Chinese company's future phone cameras will benefit from the German optics firm's deep involvement. We've also heard, among other things, that the device could be available in a multitude of different colors, and a new leak seemingly aligns with both major talking points.

Renders leaked via Weibo user ichangezone may finally offer a legitimate look at what Huawei has in the pipeline. While smartphones are known to arrive in different shades to suit consumer tastes -- Huawei's handsets very much included -- it's relatively unheard that a company should roll out so many different options. This leak depicts eight different colors, but some appear quite similar to others. Whether Huawei plans to lay on such a broad choice remains to be seen, but we certainly won't complain if the Mate 9 is offered in so many hues.

The design doesn't look too shabby, either. As you can see below, the touted Mate 9 includes a large display with an high screen-to-body ratio. The phablet, which is expected to pack a mammoth 5.9-inch QHD display, is likely to be an all-metal affair. If you look very closely between the two rear shooters, you may be able to spot the LEICA branding, and it'll be interesting to see the progress of the point-and-shoot experience since the P9 and P9 Plus

The device will likely feature Huawei's to-be-announced HiSilicon Kirin 960 64-bit chip, which is expected to pack eight cores. As is vogue for handsets of the flagship variety, a model with 6 GB of RAM could be on offer, though a cheaper variant with just the 4 GB RAM is also expected.

With a proposed 4000 mAh battery set to be squeezed under the hood, the Mate 9 could be quite something. We don't know precisely when the device will materialize, though Huawei has said it'll be unveiled before the end of this year

It should be noted that this is merely a leak, so should be taken with the usual dose of salt for the time being. That said, do take a peek through the gallery, and be sure to let us know what you make of the Mate 9's purported form factor in the comments below.
