Huawei Ascend D quad XL and two more official - "the world's fastest smartphone" and 2500mAh battery are in tow
Huawei didn't wait until its official press event that starts mere minutes from now, and outed a press release outlining its new Huawei Ascend D (for Diamond) series, comprising of dual-core and quad-core handsets.

Much to our surprise, the D-series is powered by Huawei's own ARM-based chipsets, called K3V2, and the quad-core version of it powers two monster handsets. The first one is the Huawei Ascend D quad, with four cores humming along at 1.5GHz and a 4.5" HD LCD display with 720x1280 pixels of resolution and "the industry's most powerful 32-bit true color graphic processor".

Not only that, but it seems to be the most compact 4.5-incher with 8.9mm slimness, and Huawei has also addressed the complaints about its camera sensors, including an 8MP BSI one here, along with the 1.3MP front-facer. Sound is taken care of with Dolby 5.1 surround and Audience earSmart voice technology.

The company claims that the 1800mAh battery should provide 30% more uptime than the average for the category, due to special power optimizations it has done to the phone's hardware, Android ICS software and its own UI overlay.

If the promised extended battery life isn't enough for you, the Huawei Ascend D quad XL comes to the rescue, with a huge 2500mAh battery, which the company says will provide two to three days of normal usage. The Ascend D quad XL is slightly thicker at 10.9mm, but who wouldn't sacrifice some anorexia for a 3-day battery?

Last in the D-series is the Huawei Ascend D1 mid-ranger, with 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and more modest 1670mAh battery. The Ascend D1 will be available as soon as April in China, Australia, Europe, Asia-Pacific, North and South America, and the Middle East, while the two quad-cores will come later in Q2.

Well, Huawei certainly kicked off the MWC events today with a bang, and we are heading now to its presentation with the hope to handle the slim and powerful quad-core goodness. There is also a quad-core tablet with high-res screen and LTE to be shown, so things are certainly interesting at Huawei's booth right now.
