HTC's next Windows Phone handset to be called "One (M8) for Windows"?
HTC’s rumored Windows Phone 8.1 device, initially known as the W8, might end up having a rather odd name. According to Engadget, the handset is tentatively called "HTC One (M8) for Windows", and should be released by Verizon no later than the end of September.
It’s said that, just like the Android-based HTC One M8, the upcoming Windows Phone device should have BoomSound speakers, and a Duo camera on the back. Engadget adds that the One M8 for Windows will also feature Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) capabilities. Microsoft is expected to enable support for VoLTE on Windows Phone with a future GDR1 update - which could mean that the update will arrive before the end of September, in time for the new HTC device.
Unfortunately, we still don’t know if this alleged Windows Phone-based One M8 will look just like the Android version or not. Also, its final name might not be "HTC One (M8) for Windows", since this is a tentative moniker. Anyway, it wouldn’t be the first time when HTC gives an unusual name to a Microsoft-powered device. The company’s two WP handsets from 2012 were officially introduced as the "HTC Windows Phone 8X" and "HTC Windows Phone 8S", though everyone simply called them HTC 8X and HTC 8S.
