HTC One lifts company to its best month in a year, but COO leaves amidst employee turmoil
HTC has released its financial results for the past month of May 2013, and it has become the company’s strongest month in the past year as the HTC One is driving sales and profits up. The HTC One, the company’s 2013 flagship made out of aluminum and with an UltraPixel camera, is starting to unwind its potential as it is about to soon arrive on major U.S. carriers and in a ‘Nexus’ version with stock Android.
HTC revenues hit $967 million in May 2013, but compared to the same month last year HTC was still down 3.3%.
HTC launched its life-saving HTC One in April after a couple of delays. Now, the company has said it will assemble a manufacturing quality assurance team for better product reliability.
However amidst the good news come the announcement that HTC chief operating officer Matthew Costello is leaving the company. We’ve been hearing reports about upset employees leaving HTC, but Costello is the highest ranking executive to quit. Costello was at HTC for three years and will be succeeded by Fred Liu, assuming the role in addition to his current duties as as president of engineering and operations.
