Googler creates a 'smart mirror' allowing him to shave and check out the news at the same time
A Googler by the name of Max Braun has developed a pretty cool connected bathroom mirror. Using two-way glass, a display panel, a controller board and some components like the ones you might find in a blister pack at Radio Shack, Braun created a smart mirror that is using some simple APIs including one for the Associated Press, and one for Forecast.

The mirror updates automatically, and it will also respond to voice search. Braun is looking to add other capabilities like traffic updates, reminders and any other subject that works with Google Now.

Braun says that the display is thin, only a couple of mm thin, and it took only a couple hundred lines of code to get the UI to where it is now. He has experimented running it on Chromecast, Nexus Player and the Fire TV Stick. Max admits that he needs to select a platform and clean up the electronics inside.

For now, Max can keep up to date on what's going on in the world and check the weather outside his door every time he shaves in the morning.
