Google working on a feature that allows Android cameras to search for information out of the box
Remember Google Goggles? The app allows you to point your Android phone's camera at a bar code, QR code, a well-known landmark or image, and receive information about it from Google's voluminous data base. Now, Google is said to be working on a way to expand the capabilities of Goggles using an Android camera right out of the box. According to a report published today that cites an anonymous source, Google has been working for some time on a feature that will give Android users the ability to use the Google Camera app and the camera on their Android phone, to seek information.

The anonymous source included an illustration showing how this rumored new feature would work. The user will use his/her finger to outline on the screen, the object that information is requested for. In the example sent by the source, a coffee mug and a tape dispenser are pictured. The mug is outlined by a finger while the other object is left alone. The Google Camera app comes back with information about the outlined object, in this case the mug, and reveals a store where it can be purchased from, and a price. And the outlining can be done in real-time before a picture is snapped, or after a photo has been taken.
