GIF sharing and customization finally comes to WhatsApp
Popular messenger WhatsApp has quietly introduced GIF support in its iOS app, while the functionality will be added to the Android version soon. There's a new GIF search engine, along with the ability to send six-second videos and Live Photos as animated pictures. What's more, GIFs can be customized with options to trim clips, add text and emoji before sharing. The ones you like most can be added to favorites as well, allowing for handy access.
GIF sharing has been a long time coming for WhatsApp and its addition evens the ground between the messenger and alternatives such as Apple's own iMessage, which features a native GIF search engine and third-party GIF sharing apps like Tumblr and GIF Keyboard. Recently, WhatsApp added photo sharing with customization options like text, drawing, and emojis. The new GIF sharing features added show that WhatsApp is actively betting on the sharing of personalized media as a way of engaging users with its messenger.
