Essential Phone could be finally released this week (at least on Sprint)

It's been almost three months since the Essential Phone was announced, but the handset can't be bought yet (although you can register for it if you're in the US). Fortunately, it looks like the device will finally be released later this week.

According to a leaked screenshot revealed on Reddit (seen above), Sprint plans to start selling the Essential Phone on August 18 - this Friday. Interestingly, August 18 is a full week before a "First Look" event that Essential is allegedly planning for its phone, although this may be about the unlocked version of the handset, not the Sprint model.

For now, it's not clear how much Sprint will ask for the Essential Phone. Nevertheless, we assume the price will hover around the price of the unlocked model: $699.

Most likely, Essential - a company already valued at $1.2 billion although it hasn't shipped a single product - will share more details about the availability of its smartphone in the coming days. Once released, the handset should be available not just from Sprint and Essential's website, but also via major retailers like Amazon and Best Buy.
