Code inside iOS 7.1 points to Touch ID for one or more of Apple's next-gen iPads
A bit of code from the biometric kit for iOS 7.1, suggests that the fingerprint scanning Touch ID feature will be seen in at least one upcoming new iPad model. More precisely, that would be either the Apple iPad Air 2 or the next Apple iPad mini with Retina display. Currently, Touch ID can be found only on the Apple iPhone 5s.

In the code, there is a reference to the Apple iPhone and Apple iPod Touch ("1") and Apple iPad tablets ("2"). So the code indicates that the Apple iPhone 6 will have Touch ID (as expected) and at least one of the slates will offer it as well. Earlier this month, Apple-connected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI said that both new iPad tablets coming out of Apple this year, the 9.7 inch iPad Air 2, and the 7.9 inch iPad mini with Retin Display 2, will include Touch ID.

According to Kuo, the Apple iPad Air 2 will be released during the third quarter, a little earlier than usual this year. The analyst didn't mention an expected launch date for the second iPad mini with Retina display.

Thanks for the tip!
