China set to hit 400 million smartphone sales in 2014
China is the largest cell phone market in the world, and that doesn't look to change in 2014. In fact, new statistics are saying that China may have more smartphone sales in 2014 than there are people living in the United States. The predictions are putting the number somewhere around 400 million smartphones in 2014 alone.
Chief Gartner analyst Lu Jun is predicting that China will see 443.5 million mobile phones sold in total this year, which means the country is expected to have about 90% of mobile sales be smartphones, which is an absolutely huge market. Even more interesting, Jun is expecting the high-end smartphone market in China to grow substantially as well over the next few years. It is expected to be about 20% this year, meaning about 80 million high-end smartphones. But, by 2017, Jun is expecting the high-end smartphone market in China to hit 37%.
That's a huge market and a lot of growth potential. Samsung and MIUI are already doing quite well in China, and that doesn't look to change going forward, but there is definitely opportunity for other smartphone makers to gain customers.
