China Mobile indicates that Cat 6 LTE is a lock for the Apple iPhone 6 series
Last week, a leaked pic of an alleged iPhone 6S motherboard revealed that the 2015 Apple iPhone models, expected to be unveiled later this year in September, will come with a Cat 6 LTE chip manufactured by Qualcomm. Today, a new report from China reveals that local carrier China Mobile seems to have unofficially confirmed that the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus will come with support for the newer LTE standard.

At a recent event, China Mobile, the largest carrier in the world by the reported number of total subscribers (816.34 million of them), shared some details on the impending implementation of an LTE-A Cat 6 network. The interesting part comes as company officials listed Apple among the companies that will soon start selling Cat 6-enabled devices.

Now, while this doesn't specifically mention that Apple's iPhone 6S series will come with Cat 6 LTE modems, it's about as close as we can get. This obviously lends a lot of further credibility to the previously-leaked photo of the iPhone 6S motherboard.

The current-generation iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have maximum theoretical speeds of 150Mbps. The Cat 6 LTE standard offers speeds of up to 300Mbps, although actual speeds vary depending on carrier and coverage.

The iPhone 6S is expected to come with several minor improvements compared to last year's iPhone 6. Although leaked pictures of the chassis suggest that the design will remain mostly unchanged, unofficial reports speak of features such as a 12MP primary camera with RGBW pixels, a non-bending new build material called Series 7000 Aluminum, as well as Force Touch-enabled displays.
