Apple's latest product: a book
Today Apple unveiled its latest product – a design book, containing 450 photos of Apple products. Some of the showcased designs date as far back as 1998's iMac. It also features information on the materials and techniques that Apple's design team used the past two decades. The book is named “Designed by Apple in California”.
Jony Ive, Apple's chief design officer, explained that the book is dedicated to the memory of Steve Jobs himself. Ive also explained the reasoning behind creating the book.
The idea of genuinely trying to make something great for humanity was Steve's motivation from the beginning, and it remains both our ideal and our goal as Apple looks to the future. This archive is intended to be a gentle gathering of many of the products the team has designed over the years. We hope it brings some understanding to how and why they exist, while serving as a resource for students of all design disciplines.
“Designed by Apple in California” will be available in two different editions – Small (10.20” x 12.75”), which will set you back $199 and Large (13” x 16.25”), carrying a $299 price tag. The book will be available at Apple's online store and select Apple Stores around the world, such as the ones in London, Syndey, Paris and Berlin, starting tomorrow (16 November, 2016).
