The various plugs that come with the guitar
The Fender Squier Stratocaster is an entry-level guitar for those without blisters on their fingers. The guitar has the traditional jack to plug into an amp, but this guitar can also be plugged into
an iOS device. Unfortunately, the connection is made using an included USB mini to 30 pin connector adaptor. This means that if you want to use the new lightning connector, you will need another adaptor to go from
30 pin to lightning. Also part of the guitar is a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a high-quality headphone amp comes with the guitar so that you can hear "the processed guitar signal right from the guitar itself."
The whole package will cost you $199 and will allow you to record directly to the Garageband app on your
Apple iPhone,
Apple iPad and
Apple iPod touch. We've been wondering of the proliferation of musical instrument apps has cut into the desire to play the real thing. With Fender fighting back like this, perhaps there still is hope that we will still see future
Clapton,
VanHalen,
Hendrix (select one) wannabes bending strings in the future. The Fender Squier Stratocaster with iOS support is available at Apple's online store only.
