Apple might release 'retina' iPad mini this fall after all
The second-generation Apple iPad mini might come with a high resolution ‘Retina’ display after all. Taiwanese publication DigiTimes with sources close to suppliers has now made a 180 turn saying that LG Display could be ready with the high-res panels this fall.
LG Display will reportedly ship 2 to 3 million 7.9-inch displays for the iPad mini. Apple is expected to launch the new iPad mini in October.
Moreover, LG’s display unit is ramping up production of 9.7-inch panels for the fifth-generation iPad. Total capacity should reach 2.5 to 3 million units and 1 to 2 million of those would be for the new iPad and the rest for older models.
The upcoming iPad 5 is expected to be lighter and thinner with only one light tube in its backlight. Chances are it will adopt a new design with a thinner bezel making it more compact and easy to hold.
