Analyst says Apple iPhone 5 to be unwrapped in June at WWDC
According to an analyst with Japanese firm Daiwa Securities, Apple will revert back to its Summertime launch schedule with the Apple iPhone 5. The latest of Apple's hugely successful iPhone models will continue to have the same glass to glass touchphone technology seen on past models. That is the only design note in the report, although the Apple iPhone 5 is expected to come to market with a completely re-designed unibody aluminum case like the Apple iPad. There is speculation that the display on the new model will measure 4 inches. Chinese language newspaper Commercial Times quoted the Daiwa analyst as saying that the glass to glass configuration benefits panel suppliers TPK Holding and Wintek.
Unlike past versions of the Apple iPhone, the iPhone 4S was not introduced until October 4th and was launched ten days later. Perhaps as a result of the extra months of waiting, demand for the latest model was off the charts when the phone was finally allowed to go home with buyers. In the first quarter of availability, total sales of the Apple iPhone (including the iPhone 4 and 3GS) set a new record with 37 million units purchased.
Besides the rumored 4 inch screen, what other changes are in store for the Apple iPhone 5? If Daiwa is right, we will know in about 4 months. Of course, if past is prologue, we should start to see some leaked photos of the phone fairly soon. And that doesn't account for the annual prototype dropped on the floor of a bar. And while no date has been announced for the 2012 WWDC, its usual venue, the Moscone Center in San Francisco, shows a "Corporate Meeting" scheduled for June 11th-15th, 2012. This is probably the show where we will see Apple CEO Tim Cook show off the Apple iPhone 5.
