Android Pay has finally made its Ireland debut
Contactless payment solutions are fantastic, and two of the biggest platforms out there for this are Android and Apple Pay. It was recently reported that Apple Pay is now supported at more than 4 million retail outlets all across the United States, and while that expansion in the US certainly is great to see, Google just released Android Pay in a rather large country that's been lacking it ever since the platform's initial release - Ireland.
Android Pay is officially live for all of our Irish readers, and if you'd like to start using Google's mobile payment platform, you'll need to ensure that you're a customer at either AIB or KBC over in Ireland. More banks are expected to be added in the near future, but as it stands, you'll need to bank at one of these two institutions and use either a Visa or MasterCard. If you meet those two qualifications, you can now start using Android Pay in the country at stores such as McDonald's, Eason, KFC, Tesco, and more. Support for Android Pay purchases is also available online, meaning that you can pay with the service within certain apps, including Hotel Tonight, Uber, Fancy, etc.
As per Google's Global Head of Payment Products, Pali Bhat, "We feel it's going to provide Irish users with a lot of choice in using their device and being able to pay. We expect Irish users to start adopting mobile payments en masse."
