An official, stable version of VLC for Android hits the Play Store, the beta is still around though
The beta version of Video LAN Client (more popularly known as VLC) for Android has long been one of the more popular video players for the platform. Ever since it arrival on the Play Store, it's been toting a "beta" in its name, indicating the potential adopters that it's an experimental playground for many a feature and functionality.
From the looks of it, Videolabs has decided that its VLC player has got to the point that an official, full-feature version of the app is due out. Just yesterday, a new version of the app hit the Play Store - dubbed VLC for Android, it's touted as being a stable version of the player, developed in accordance with Google's Material Design guidelines. Interestingly enough, Videolabs have not taken down the beta variation of VLC, which will most probably continue to be a testing ground for new features.
It might also strike you that VLC for Android beta bears a slightly higher version number (1.0.1) than the stable release (which rolls under the 0.9.10 version number), but that's pretty logical - after all, the beta versions of most apps are updated more frequently. Thus, we suppose that the "flagship" app of Videolabs will soon catch up with the updates.
