Huawei has long ago joined the ranks of Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Samsung, as it has its very own chipset portfolio, mostly used in some of its smartphones. Various representatives of Huawei's Kirin line of silicon chips can be found in devices like the Huawei P8 and the Huawei Ascend Mate7, which donned the Kirn 930 and the Kirin 925, respectively.
We've already heard that Huawei has plans for a Kirin 950 SoC a few months ago; we also heard something something about its probably specs. Today we have a pretty extensive leak that gives us the whole bushel about the China-based maker's next Kirin powerhouse.
It seems we will be dealing with a 64-bit octa-core chipset that comprises four Cortex-A53 cores and another quartet of Cortex-A72 ones. The Kirin 950 will be able to get a clock rate of up to 2.4GHz. Am ARM Mali T880 unit will be responsible for graphics processing.
But that's not all - the chipset also seemingly comes with a dedicated DSP audio co-processor, a Tensilica Hi-Fi 4 DSP, which will probably woo audiophiles. Another co-processor, an i7, will act as a sensor, connectivity, and security hub, working in the octa-core heart's stead.
In the meantime, the chipset will also support dual-channel LPDDR4 RAM, UFS 2.0, and eMMC 5.1 storage, which are all among the latest and greatest in their respective fields. The Kirin 950 will also supports up to 42MP camera units. Category 10 LTE will probably also be a part of the feature mix, and so will be USB 3.0 & Bluetooth 4.2.
There's no definite timeline on when the Kirin 950 will get launched, though we suppose it might debut alongside Huawei's next high-end smartphone later this year (probably the Mate 8?).
