Amazon mistake: Apple iPad mini has stereo speakers
It has been thought that Apple launched the Apple iPad mini to compete against the low-priced 7 inch Android models which includes the Amazon Kindle Fire HD. Feeling some of that competition, Amazon earlier this week posted on its web site a comparison chart as part of its "much more for much less" campaign, showing features on the Amazon Kindle Fire HD that are not on Apple's 7.9 inch tablet. The online retailer boasts of the HD display on its slate vs. what it calls a "low-resolution display" on the iPad mini. The pixel density seems to prove this as the Amazon tablet has a 216ppi pixel density vs. 163ppi for the Apple iPad mini.

Amazon also noted how its tablet has dual stereo speakers versus the mono speakers on the smaller sized Apple tablet. But Amazon might not have done its homework here. An email sent from Apple's senior vp of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller, reveals that the Apple iPad mini does indeed have stereo speakers. Perhaps the blame can't be placed right at Amazon's feet after all considering that the product page on Apple's website merely says that the "mini" has a built-in speaker.

To set things straight, Apple needs to update the Apple iPad mini product page to reflect the stereo speakers, and Amazon needs to either correct its comparison chart or remove it in a timely fashion. The online retailer just might want to keep it up after fixing the incorrect line about the mono speaker on the iPad mini because after all, it does strike at one major criticism of the 7.9 inch iOS tablet, the 1024 x 768 resolution on the screen.
