Alleged HTC One M9 prototype leaks out: familiar design, but huge camera on the back

90comments

Yesterday we heard that HTC will be moving its UltraPixel camera tech to be the front-facing shooter of the upcoming One (M9), and go all-out with the rear unit this time. It is supposed to introduce a 20 MP main camera, which is up there with the highest camera resolutions on Android phones so far, but it isn't clear if he new flagship will still keep the Duo Camera refocusing technology from the One (M8).

Well, today we have the alleged One (M9) leak in its full glory, and the camera area on the back looks huge, and unlike anything we've seen so far, even on 20 MP phones like the Z3, for instance. This might mean that HTC would still keep the Duo Camera technology, but introduce a much higher resolution main snapper within the unit, thus closing the last loophole that prevented folks from grabbing an HTC flagship like hotcakes.

Yesterday, Bloomberg's Taiwanese sources revealed that the One (M9) will resemble the (M8) in terms of design, and we can indeed see now that this will be the case, if the prototype unit depicted here is the real deal in the end. We also heard that HTC will be slimming its BoomSound front stereo speakers set, but we can't see anything like that in the picture, so we shouldn't be looking for a much larger display diagonal than the 5" panel on the One (M8), after all. The One (M9) is also said to be released in gold, gray and silver, just like its predecessor.

As for the other changes under the hood, we might get a Quad HD resolution display, and screeching fast processing power. According to Bloomberg, the phone will be powered by Qualcomm's newest Snapdragon 810 chipset. The One (M9) will also eventually double down on HTC's considerable audio prowess, introducing Dolby Laboratories Inc.’s Dolby 5.1 audio technology. Allegedly, these goodies will all be managed by a brand spanking new Sense 7 UI with "improved location-based services," whatever that means. The MWC expo is a few weeks away only, so not much left to wait until we see what HTC has in store for us this year. In the meantime, you can marvel at HTC One (M9)'s alleged prototype above.
