Global iPhone preorders pegged at the staggering 16 million, AT&T breaks its own sales record
In the words of Glenn Lurie, CEO of AT&T: "It was a terrific day for our customers and us. This is our biggest iPhone, pre-order launch day ever. When you combine our best-pricing, the nation's most reliable 4G LTE network, and a service experience that leads the industry, iPhone customers who choose AT&T win."
Expect more of these stories today, as the first hard numbers start to fold in. As for the actual total preorder numbers, the rumors are that Apple got a grand total of 16 million preorders for the new iPhones, and who knows how many more over the weekend. If these hold water, we can put things in perspective by comparing with last year's double iPhone 5s/5c date, where preorders over the first weekend reached the 9 million mark. If Apple has indeed managed to pull the 16 million figure off, expect the stock price to start a unrelenting march to new heights, barring some unforeseen events in the market.
