A new Layar for your smartphone will make Augmented Reality easier to use
A new update for the Layar Augmented Reality app is available for Apple iPhone (iOS 4.0 or higher) and Android users. Version 5.0 has been in beta testing since February and brings you information layered on top of what you see from your phone's camera.
This year, Layar is aiming to make Augmented Reality useful for smartphone users. The company's Raimo Van der Klein said, "This year we are continuing to look for more ways to bring augmented reality into people’s everyday lives. With today’s new version, we’re able to take a huge step closer towards that goal by giving users the chance to discover exciting new content and share cool layers and augmented screenshots with friends." Layar users will be able to pass along interesting screenshots via Twitter and Facebook. In addition, Layar 5.0 will bring an improved UI and certain layers will now have animated content.
While Layar 5.0 is available now from the App Store and the Android Market, those using the app on a smartphone powered by Symbian will not be able to access the new features. The company hopes to have the updated version of Layar available soon for the OS.
