A collection of awesome, super high resolution wallpapers worthy of your new Quad HD (1440 x 2560) smartphone (April)
If your phone is starting to feel rusty, there's a number of things you can do about it – especially if it's an Android. Admittedly, however, the most hassle-free option has to do with that tired old background of yours – you could do with a change there. Problem is, if you're sporting one of the newer smartphone models with extremely pixel-dense, Quad HD (1440 x 2560) resolution displays, then wallpapers that will make use of every single pixel on them are quite hard to come by – especially if you subtract ones that have been interpolated to a higher resolution to fool you. There's the problem with piracy, as well – some of us simply prefer not to to infringe on artists' intellectual property.

This is precisely where our fortnightly column on amazingly detailed, awesome-looking wallpapers comes in. Best of all – all works included have been filed under a Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license, meaning that the author has graciously decided to let the world to use them absolutely royalty-free. We regularly go through hundreds of such wallpaper-worthy photographs, compositions, and the like, before shortlisting anywhere between 20 to 40 pieces that we feel cover a wide spectrum of tastes. What's more, we try and include wallpapers that will fit different homescreen layouts – whether you've got a classical arrangement (weather widget on top, empty space, row of icons on bottom) or not.

As always, the images in the gallery have been downsized significantly since the files are absolutely giant (224MB versus 2.2MB) and would take forever to load on your end. If you find something you like, you'll have to go for the link in the description field in the gallery below to download it. Keep in mind that even if you're sporting a device with a less pixel-dense, 1080 x 1920 or 720 x 1280 resolution display, then that's okay too – you can still make good use of these, and they'll still look better than your typical, resolution-fitting wallpaper.
