170 countries now offer the Amazon Kindle Fire HD; 200 countries support the Amazon Appstore
The Amazon Kindle Fire HD and the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 are both now available in more than 170 countries for pre-order through Amazon.com. Those areas where the slates are new will see them shipped starting on June 13th. The 7 inch Amazon Kindle Fire HD is priced at $199. The screen sports a resolution of 1280 x 800 with a dual-core 1.2GHz TI OMAP4460 processor under the hood. The 8.9 inch screen on the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 carries a resolution of 1920 x 1200, and the $269 tablet is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz TI OMAP4470 processor. The two slates are pre-installed with Android 4.0.
Both tablets come out of the box pre-registered, letting you go into the Amazon Appstore and quickly purchase apps, games or content. In fact, Amazon also announced on Thursday that its Appstore is now available in over 200 countries. Apps and games can be purchased from the Appstore on PCs, Macs and Android phones and tablets, including the Amazon Kindle Fire.
To celebrate, Amazon is giving away for free on Friday, Fruit Ninja, along with Cut the Rope: Experiments. Typically, Amazon offers a free paid app every day. Other highlights include 1-click payments, customer reviews and personalized recommendations. The Amazon Appstore has recently expanded to the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Spain, China and Japan. It will soon be found in Brazil.
