RIM officially announced the first BlackBerry phone with built-in WiFi module, allowing it to connect to wireless LAN networks, turning it into dual-mode phone. As it supports UMA, it can transmit the call through either the GSM network or through the WiFi one, just as it is with phones with HotSpot @Home service from T-Mobile.
Otherwise, the BlackBerry 8820 is identical to the 8800 in its specifications. Supported is microSDHC (microSD High Capacity) which allows for using memory cards up to 32GB.
The RIM BlackBerry 8820 will be available from select carriers around the world in the coming weeks. AT&T is scheduled to launch it later this summer.
