Motorola's RSG breaks the barrier between traditional home and wireless phone service

Motorola Inc. is showcasing a new Residential Seamless Mobility Gateway (RSG) at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show, which will allow bridging the home and wireless phone service. The product includes an 802.11b/g wireless access point, a four-port router, and a built-in Voice-over-IP adapter, that allow it to run the users home network, power standard telephones, and act as a hotspot for their mobile phones. Thus all the customers have to do is to dial a number and the RSG finds the best available network or service option. Moreover, when the Motorola's RGB is paired with a dual-mode handset (DMH), it can seamlessly transfer calls between the home wireless network (WLAN) and the cellular network without interrupting the call. Currently Motorola is introducing two RSG models - the RSG2500, which is expected to be available in the first half of 2006 and the RSG3500, expected in the second half of the year.
