HTC brings official quad-band update to the Diamond

HTC has made official what we saw unofficially last week: the Touch Diamond is now a quad-band device. Why it was left out in the first place still has us scratching our heads, especially since HTC claimed they couldn't pack that many radios into such a small device, and U.S. 3G is still absent, but who are we to look a gift horse in the mouth? Other enhancements include improved TouchFLO 3D performance, improved reception and a handful of other maintenance fixes. Head over to XDA-Developers for the full list and download link.

Well according the specs here VZW won't be seeing this phone at all. Cough, no CDMA support.

Do your research before you post! CDMA has been the only HTC Diamond to pass the FCC, no GSM versions have been cleared in the US. Verizon and Sprint will carry this phone is Sept. Some say Sept 2nd launch....but I think that's for Sprint. Verizon is focused on getting the new Blackberry Thunder out....possibly Oct at the earliest.

Actually, there are both CDMA and GSM versions of the phone. The GSM version was made first, seeing as how 82% of the the world uses GSM, and the ROM update is for the GSM version, hence the quad-band support. And of course you haven't seen a GSM version, because the phone hasn't been released in the US, which means that you also haven't seen a CDMA version either. Finally, as far as "they actually want it to work good, hence no GSM"...yeah, that's pretty true. No one has ever made a GSM phone that works well, despite the fact that GSM is the most prevalent phone tech in the world and most European and Asian phones have far better features than American phones

So, thanks for the thoughts around possible launch date. If this thing goes live on VZW in Sept I'm on it. My fear is that like the Thunder, which I hear is having problems (multiple but many focused around the UI) this phone will slip and won't be ready until sometime next year. My current phone is a piece of crap (Moto Q) and I want to replace with a nice touchscreen. I really don't care whether its the iphone or something else but I'd prefer to stay on VZ and the Touch Diamond looks like a nice touchscreen pda.

It would seem to be a natural upgrade from the T-Mobile Wing. I can only dream. It seems the big 2 are getting all the good phones.

FCC Approves HTC Touch Diamond with U.S. 3G

Today, 11:11 AM by Eric M. Zeman

Documents seen on the FCC site reveal some details about a new version of the HTC Touch Diamond. The Touch Diamond was first announced by HTC in May. The original version did not support U.S. 3G spectrum bands. This new version seen on the FCC site includes WCDMA 850/1900, and also confirms Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and Wi-Fi. HTC has not said when this variant of the Touch Diamond will become available. HTC announced a CDMA variant of the Diamond earlier this month.
