The long awaited GSM phone with option for making Skype calls was announced yesterday by Skype and "3" carrier, under the name 3 Skypephone. Usually seen as a great danger for the network carriers’ profit, the device will be able to make free calls to any Skype user, no matter where he/she is, as long as the bills under the contract with the network are paid. Sending IM messages to any Skype client is also free.
Besides the Skype capabilities, the phone features 3G, 2-megapixel camera, 16 MB internal memory, upgradeable by the microSD slot. The 3 Skypephone will be put on the market on November 2 in the United Kingdom and by the end of the year in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland, Macau and Sweden. The price of the phone itself is £49 ($101) and the cheapest possible month charge with 3 for making Skype calls is £10 ($20).
