Modeo, a subsidiary of Crown Castle which is expected to launch a DVB-H based digital video and radio broadcasts, showcased new DVB-H phone that will be compatible with their new services. The phone was showcased at the Microsoft booth at CTIA 2006 and is actually manufactured by HTC, which makes most of the Windows Mobile based phones nowadays. The DVB-H phone for Modeo has specification similar to the T-Mobile SDA and Cingular 2125 but adds a DVB-H tuner and its display orientation is landscape. DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting - HandHeld) is a competing to the DMB standard and is based on DVB-T (standard for broadcasting digital TV to non-hand held devices). Trials of DVB-H are underway in many countries. In the US, Modeo is expected to launch their DVB-H network in selected cities in late 2006 or early 2007. Nationwide deployment to the top 30 US markets is expected in 2007. Modeos video services will broadcast in QVGA resolution (320x240 pixels) at up to 30 frames per second.
