Alexander: Motorola's savior. (They're done)

About a month ago BGR told us about the Alexander, the company's last ditch effort to resurrect its once strong handset division. Rumored specs were impressive enough: 5-8 mexapixel camera, NVIDIA 3D graphics, UIQ operating system and GPS. It was said that the Alexander was the company's last major push to turn things around, and if it didn't pan out then they would sell the company. Well today BGR got ahold of an image of the device, and, well, we don't see this phone saving much of anything. In fact, when UTStarcom beats you to the punch you know its time to move on. It appears Windows Mobile 6.1 may be the OS, though the screen shot looks like it might be WM7. With the rumored October release date we don't think 7 will be near ready by then, but hey, you never know. Either way, if this is what the company is hanging their hat on it looks like the end is just around the corner.

RAZR was truly ground breaking, there was nothing like it in the market then, the UI was crap and the battery did not last a day, but it turned heads. that's what it needs now. This is not it.

This reminds me of "Starship Troopers 3". What's the point of making it if you already know it's gonna suck and no one's gonna buy it anyway?

(Just saw a commerical for ST 3 last night). I loved one, 2 was an absolute cheapie made abomination, and this one... Oh man... what were they thinking.... yes, a direct to DVD piece of dog-doo.

Back to to the MOTO... This think looks like a precursor design to the Centro before the folks at Palm finally said "Ehh screw it, let's just use the same form factor that's been tried and true over the past 5 years".

what is wrong with this phone? its got an 8 megapixel camera, if its 5 megapixel thats still really good. GPS, will probably have 3G and wi-fi. It has a QWERTY, possibly a touchscreen. And that UTstardom doesnt have anything on this alexander. And if it has WM 7 that would be awesome. STop hating people!

Not only the phone sucks but the phone from the picture sucks as well. Motorola should really improve their creative team/designers.

it doesn`t look that bad...its just not enough to save them from death.

I thought Moto should make an ultra slim and stylish touch screen phone. Its like they did with the RAZR. They took the flip phone design, slimmed it down, and made it different, stylish, and made it stick out. Now if they did this with a touch screen phone, which is one of the, if not the most, popular phone design of today, they could strike it big. The RAZR2 could've been better, but they overpriced it. I don't know why MOTO thought a plain old Windows Mobile phone would like save them from going out of bussiness. They really have gone downhill since the RAZR.
